Roy Bivens, MBA


Roy Bivens leads Orion Advisory through extensive experience with marque healthcare and financial services companies including Cleveland Clinic, Carolinas Health Care System, Novant Health, MedStar Health, Cadence Health, JP Morgan Chase, NY Federal Reserve, Wells Fargo and Nationwide Investments. He has also successfully advised boards of directors, a number of startup companies, and currently serves on several healthcare management boards.

Under Roy’s leadership, Orion Advisory has successfully helped hundreds of medical teams design and implement cultural change, build clinical and non-clinical leaders and develop programs to prepare for and navigate through the future of healthcare. As a co-author of Experiencing Improvement, Roy shares the successes he and his team achieved in working with the caregivers of Cleveland Clinic, including the groundbreaking customization and adaptation of non-industry tools into healthcare to better control costs and increase quality of care.

Roy’s diverse healthcare experience includes surgery, medicine, inpatient, outpatient, hospital, medical operations, government relations, and over 20 medical service lines such as heart and vascular, cancer, digestive disease, imaging, medicine, neurology, orthopedics & rheumatology, radiology, pathology, and pharmacy.

Roy also has deep experience with industries such as financial services and insurance, having worked with leadership teams to develop short and long term business strategies, including the important alignment and execution work that follows successful planning efforts to create effective change. Roy specializes in working with senior executive teams in customizing and deploying Orion Advisory proprietary methodologies to create world class performance driven organizations. Roy brings a wealth of experience in senior executive coaching, best practice deployment and facilitation of executive teams from concept to implementation of organizational change, and is regularly sought out by his clients for guidance on transformational change leadership.

Roy’s career began at GE where he produced and led teams to over $50 million in sales and led teams with GE Corporate Audit Staff on company initiatives in both existing and acquired GE businesses. His work domestically and internationally includes Industrial Systems, National Broadcasting Company, and several of GE Capital's diverse financial services businesses. Roy has worked on or led projects and initiatives in Six Sigma quality, finance, risk management and sales and marketing, with experience across twelve industries.

Roy is well grounded in Six Sigma and Lean methods, has played Blackbelt and Master Blackbelt roles on Six Sigma deployment engagements, and has worked with senior business leaders on effective deployment strategies and risk mitigation projects.

Roy earned an MBA at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He also received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from NC State University. He has completed the rigorous quality program at GE Corporate Audit Staff, and has an advanced two year degree in human understanding and business strategy.
